Our hospital is fortunate to have many international exchange opportunities through veterinary science and medicine. Gen Kato D.V.M, Director of Daktari Animal Hospital and affiliate professor of Colorado State University (CSU), established an exchange (internship) program with CSU to have a senior student (graduating grade at veterinary school) practice with us for 4 weeks. Their stay in return provide us good opportunities to learn the most advanced veterinary medicine available in the United State and has been a good influence on all of our staff. The international exchange goes beyond veterinary science. Students have enjoyed learning about Japanese culture through activities such as sight seeing, hot-spring outings, Japanese cuisine and sake.
We also provide continuous education for our staff. Seminars and veterinary meetings in Japan as well as those in the United States offer valuable opportunities for our staff to expand their knowledge and advance their techniques. Some of seminars and veterinary meetings our staff attend in the United States are ones of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), International Veterinary Emergency Care Society (IVECS), the American College of Veterinary Surgery (ACVS), the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Veterinary technicians as well as veterinarians attend the veterinary meeting in Hawaii each fall where they meet and interact with veterinarians from Hawaii and specialists from various fields who come to lecture from the mainland.
Dr. Gen Kato maintains and expands his relationships with veterinary colleagues in the United States through his lectures at Colorado State University and other institutes that he presents after attending meetings in the U.S. Many of international specialists who provide us educational seminars and visit our hospital are also Dr. Kato’s professional associates. These seminars and meetings are precious opportunities for our staff to have face-to-face discussions on the most recent veterinary science and medicine developments.
